Mission Statement:
The School of Ministry forms competent lay ministers to work together with the ordained to further the mission of the Church by providing training with high standards, effective methods and comprehensive learning goals.We celebrate, reflect and respond to the great cultural diversity and rich history of the Catholic Church.The School challenges the baptized to answer their call to discipleship and to bring the Good News of Jesus to all, through effective ministry to the People of God.
The School of Ministry is pleased to offer the Year 1 Lay Formation Course which lays the foundation for ministry. Our topics include sessions in Human Formation, Spiritual Formation, Theological Formation and Pastoral Formation.
Attendance is required each month in order to earn a Certificate of Lay Ministry. Access to a computer and the internet is also necessary.
We meet once a month from 9am until 4pm at:
-St. William's in Atascadero,
-St. Joseph's in Spreckels
-St. Joseph's in Capitola.
The presenter teaches from one location while the other two locations are connected via RingCentral (an online program just like Zoom). Presenter locations are rotated to give everyone a fair chance of having the expert in the room.

Our presenters are all experts in their field and are faculty members of Catholic Universities, as well as local clergy, religious and lay men and women. We are a church of lifelong learners and your life experiences add to the richness and depth of each session. The material and presentations are high quality and designed to be easily understood by everyone. Each participate is asked to submit a one-page reflection after each session. Don’t worry, there is no pass or fail. The aim is to enliven the ministries throughout the Church in Monterey!
