Mission Statement:
The Respect Life Department promotes increased awareness of the God-given dignity of human life, from the moment of conception until the moment of natural death, focusing on the life issues of abortion, euthanasia and capital punishment.

Description of Ministry:
Respect Life inspires and motivates Catholics to become actively involved in promoting life values through service, education and legislative activity. Services include: Project Rachel, Natural Family Planning, Project Truth fair booths, and Respect Life Sunday, Catholic Lobby Day, classes and work shops in all areas of Social Justice, and "Get on the Bus" outreach to prisons.

Director's Message:
Opposition to abortion is a fundamental concern of the Respect Life/Family Life Department; however, the department will also focus on Church teaching with regard to capital punishment and euthanasia. Pope John Paul II has called for an end to capital punishment, and it is hoped that we can give voice to his prophetic words.

Several attempts have been made to pass euthanasia legislation here in California. It is quite likely that such a proposition will be placed before the people in the not too distant future. We recognize the great need to keep people advised of the dangers involved in the moral slide to the acceptance of any proposition or law that would allow this barbaric act to become lawful in California.
